Campers will go on field trips each week. Some field trips may require a lunch to be purchased at that location. In such a case, please make arrangements to send money to camp with your child. If you have multiple children attending camp, please be sure to send the money in

separately with your children as they may not be in the same group during the field trip. Campers are required to attend all field trips unless camp staff determines that your child cannot attend a field trip for behavioral or medical purposes. Campers are required to attend field trips with their own age groups, no exceptions. Please do not drop off or pick up your child at a field trip location as this will ensure that all of the campers are properly supervised and accounted for from the start of the field trip to the end. Please make sure your child brings sunscreen to camp and field trips, and note that staff cannot apply it for them.

OPEN DOOR:

Parents/Guardians are welcome to visit our sites to observe their child(ren) during camp hours. If you are interested in volunteering with Horry County Parks and Recreation Summer Youth Adventure Camp, please complete a volunteer application and background check application. After the applications are completed and submitted, Human Resources will conduct a background check. Once cleared by Human Resources, ALL volunteers are required to attend a 20 minute orientation.

Any over the counter medication must be provided by the parent with a medical release form. A medical log is maintained on all campers that require medication. Any application submitted on a camper that has an existing medical condition is subject to the SYAC Supervisor’s approval.

INSURANCE:

If your child is taken to a medical facility for any reason, the parent/guardian’s medical information will be submitted to that medical facility. We carry camp participant insurance coverage, serves as a secondary insurance to the parent/guardian’s insurance. There is a deductible with Horry County Parks and Recreation’s insurance coverage. If needed, please obtain the insurance form from the front desk staff at each site. This form is required to be submitted to the insurance company by their specified time.

Please be sure to have your child(ren) at the designated camp site at the designated time for departure. If a camper is not at the site before departure, it is the parents/guardians responsibility to make arrangements for their child(ren).

  7. A parent/designated adult is required to sign their child(ren) in and out on a daily basis.
  8. Campers are required to wear sneakers to camp. Please do not send your child(ren) to camp in flip flops or sandals. For water activities and field trips, campers may bring flip flops or sandals in their back packs. However, they should be prepared to change back into their sneakers once these activities end.
  9. The following procedure will be used for discipline:
  • First incident- Verbal Warning
  • Second incident- Time Out
  • Third incident- Loss of Privilege

  • Third Write Up- Two Day Suspension, conference with team leader, and camper is placed on probation.
  • Fourth Write Up- Suspension until a conference date and time is set with the SYAC Supervisor. The camper may be dismissed from the program at this point.

Note:

If behavioral issues continue, a parent/guardian will be asked to make alternative arrangements of care for their child(ren). Write ups are required to be signed by a parent/guardian. Depending on the severity of a camper violation, a more severe form of discipline may be imposed such as expulsion from the camp. If a conference is required for any reason with a parent/guardian, this may result in the camper being dismissed from the program. If your child(ren) is removed from the program, no refunds will be issued.
