Description:

Step back in time to explore a pre-historic Native American ceremonial mound center situated at the base of the Uwharrie Mountains.

Trip Itinerary:

8:15am

Meet at Horry County Parks & Recreation office at 2830 Oak Street, Conway, SC  29526 and prepare for departure.

8:30am

Depart for Mt. Gilead, NC.

10:45am

We will make a quick stop in Rockingham, NC to pick up boxed lunches.

11:30am

Enjoy lunch picnic-style before meeting our park guide.

12:00pm

Town Creek Indian Mound Historic Site provides a glimpse of pre-historic Native American life in the South.  The site features a reconstructed ceremonial center that includes a mound, temples, burial house and mortuary, as well as exhibits and audiovisual programs.  A park ranger will take us on a guided tour of the site, plus we will make some pinch pot-style pottery to bring home.

Our final stop of the day is at the Berry Patch, home of the world’s largest strawberry!   After taking some selfies in front of the 24’ tall strawberry, be sure to check out the homemade ice cream and locally-grown fresh produce.

I understand that this program has risks of injury and damage to person and property ranging from slight to severe, as with such physical games and sports. I undertake that risk of my own free will, and understand that I alone am responsible for my safety while I am either preparing to play, or engaging in play, or am otherwise on or near the premises where the program takes place. By signing this Waiver, or checking the web form, I am indicating that I understand these facts, and that I am participating in this activity at my own risk. I further represent that I have undertaken to prepare myself for this program, and I have not received any medical or other professional advice to abstain because of my health or physical condition. I know of no reason why I should not participate in this program. If I am injured in any way during the conduct of this program, I authorize Horry County to seek whatever medical attention may appear to be necessary, and I will be financially responsible for such care. I further authorize Horry County to conduct drug testing on me before allowing me to participate in the program, and I further agree to participate in any random drug-testing program Horry County operates during the program or at its end. I authorize Horry County to photograph me and reproduce such likeness for the purposes of promoting this program without compensation to me. I further agree that I release and hold harmless Horry County, its agents, employees, officials, and representatives, from any and all injuries and losses that I may sustain as a result of my voluntary participation in this event.

Terms and Conditions for Facility Rental: // Notice: Please read this carefully so you fully understand this notice and its contents, and agree to its terms. It is expressly understood and agreed that the applicant assumes all risks for loss, damage, liability, cost or expense that may arise during or be caused in any way by use or occupancy of the facilities of Horry County Parks and Recreation Department. The applicant further agrees that in consideration of being permitted to use the parks, he will save and hold harmless the said Horry County, its officers, agents, employees, and volunteers from any loss, claims and liability damages and/or injuries to persons and property that in any way be caused by applicant’s use of occupancy. I, the undersigned, hereby certify to abide by the regulations governing the said facility and agree to abide by all Horry County ordinances and rules and/or policies, and be representative of the user organization. Further, I agree to be personally responsible for any damages. loss sustained by the grounds, building, furniture or equipment or unusual clean up occurring through the occupancy of said facilities.

After School Youth Program: // As parent/guardian I give Horry County Parks & Recreation Department permission to provide my child(ren) with activities and transportation regarding those activities. I hereby release Horry County (all departments), Horry County School District, all facilities associated with field trips, Horry County Council on Aging, & Horry County Parks & Recreation, their employees, & instructors from all incidents and/or accidents suffered by my child or myself. The agency also has permission to photograph my child (ren) during these activities and use photos in camp and local publications. Furthermore, my child (ren) has permission to participate in all activities provided for them at after school Youth Program. I have received, read, and understand all pages of the policies and procedures.

The contact will be automatically added to the class as a registrant if someone drops out from a full class.
